WISE WORDS 10/11/07

Good afternoon one & all and welcome back to Mount Wise for today's 'local derby' v Foxhole Stars. An especially warm welcome to Darin Morse, whose witty and concise match reports should be read by a far wider audience, I look forward to reading his pearls of wisdom on this match with great interest.

Right, with the formalities over, Wise Words can now revert to the much more appropriate, 'Strong Words' The 13 Newquay Loyal that made the trip to Hayle last Saturday were, for once, all in agreement, that we are simply not good enough !  There, I've said it, most have of you have said the same but perhaps it needed a more public airing. A lack of tactical awareness on occasions has shown that despite all the efforts put in by the players, we are being undone by the formation being played or the instructions being given by the managerial team. I have heard it said, that you should never wash your dirty linen in public, well when the amount of washing amounts to a years worth at Chins Laundry, perhaps it is time that some things were brought out into the open. I have never seen a Newquay side rely so much on the front two, how are we supposed to create clear cut chances when the midfield, are 30-40 yards adrift of the play in the majority of matches this season. With Adam Bromley being out, we are missing his width and Elmo would surely not allow some of the silly defensive errors that are costing us goals and points. Lets hope the injury crisis is over sooner rather than later.

Should I get stick from the players or managers for these comments, then so be it. I may have had small digs in the past but enough is enough, a club with the history and stature of Newquay AFC should not be in such a poor position within Cornish football. No one has suggested a change in the two managers or the majority of players, just a different style of play and tactics that allow us to cash in on the weakness of most defences in this league. With the appointment of a Director of Football, we were promised a professional approach, now it is time to put that promise into action. OK, rant over. Now go out and prove us all wrong and destroy Foxhole who were well beaten 1-5 by a very poor Millbrook team last week.

Our next 4 matches see us play Foxhole and Vospers Oak Villa (Plymouth) twice each with the possibility of a 3rd match with today's visitors should the Senior Cup match in a fortnights time go to a replay. Peppermints spotted out and about include the injured Sam Hunter at the Barracuda at 2am and Keiran Avery (without his Mrs) at the Hall for Cornwall watching comedian Lee Hurst, no matter where you are lads, someone is always watching you, although sightings of Charlie the Chough are as rare as Andrew the Lino out with a good looking woman.

COME ON YOU REDS !

More words of wisdom

WISE WORDS v Shortwood Utd 22/9/07

Good afternoon one and all and welcome to Mount Wise for today's FA Vase clash with Shortwood United. Should the scores be level after 90 mins, extra time 2 x 15 mins will be played and if still level, a replay at Meadowbank Ground in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, will be this Tuesday at 8.00pm. The eventual winner will play either Willand Rovers or Saltash United away on Sat 6th Oct.

Shortwood United play in the Hellenic Premier League and have had a good start to their season. In the FA Cup, they have already disposed of Frome Town at home and even more impressively, Tiverton Town away winning 3-0 last Saturday, The Peppermints may well have to up the performance from our last 2 SWPL matches which we won 3-0 and 6-0 to make it into the next round. I have not fallen into the trap that Tiverton fans did on their forum last week by predicting an easy home win, I have been keeping a close eye on our visitors results and match reports since the draw was made - keep a close watch on James Singh (Singer) in midfield, he scored twice last week.

Like the Peppermints, Shortwood play in Red & White stripes and the visitors will have to wear an alternative kit today. On the subject of away kits, the fans that travelled to Callington Town last Saturday saw Newquay step out in a brand new Nike Yellow & Blue shirt (sponsored by Steves Tattoos). Hodgy has already called it our lucky kit, although there was nothing lucky about any of the 6 goals we scored, one fan said he wouldn't see better than Paddys solo stroll on Match of the Day. If anyone wishes to place an order for the Away Replica shirt, please contact me or John Hodge, they will be just £20 each.

Should today's match be resolved at Mount Wise, we host newly promoted Hayle in the SWPL Cup 1st Round on Wednesday 7.45pm and depending on today's result, we then either face Willand/Saltash away in the Vase or Penryn at home in the SWPL on Sat 6th Oct, followed by Penzance away in the SWPL on Sat 13 Oct. Please get along to all these matches and cheer the lads on, I know they appreciate it. Carl Jolly posted his thanks to those fans who travelled to watch the reserves at Perranwell a couple of weeks ago, some of those fans found The Royal Oak and can thoroughly recommend the bar staff !   Random complaint, where is Charlie Chough ?

COME ON YOU YELLOWS, ...... sorry REDS !
